Christos Tsirogiannis’ looted artefact identification work featured on the Manhattan DA’s office site
18 Feb 2017
Thanks to Dr Tsirogiannis’ work, a trafficked sarcophagus fragment is returning to Greece.
The fragment “which originally dates back to 200 A.D. and depicts a battle between Greek and Trojan warriors, was stolen from Greece in 1988”. It was placed for sale in a Manhattan antiquities gallery where Dr Tsirogiannis was able to match it to a photograph in the Becchina photo archive of looted antiquities.
