Tess Davis attends repatriation ceremony
18 Jun 2013
Trafficking Culture Researcher Tess Davis attended the official repatriation ceremony for two 10th century Khmer masterpieces from the Metropolitan Museum of Art to the Kingdom of Cambodia.
This took place on 16 June at the opening of the 37th session of the World Heritage Committee, which is now being held in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap. The museum announced that it would voluntarily return the pieces in May of this year after receiving “dispositive” evidence they were plundered during the Cambodian Civil War. Davis was invited for her work with the Royal Government of Cambodia to combat the illicit trade in the kingdom’s antiquities.
